Rise Bakery

Michael

Rise Bakery was opened by Mike Koritko in 2014, years after being diagnosed with Celiac Disease. We strive to provide a one-of-a-kind gluten-free experience with an expansive menu of baked goods. We set ourselves apart from other gluten-free bakeries by catering to specialty diets without sacrificing taste, texture, or richness. We craft all of our pastries by hand in small batches using premium ingredients.

Our bakery offers breakfast sandwiches with local coffee or tea in the mornings, as well as a rotating variety of pastries includes croissants, scones, tea breads and turnovers.

For lunch, we serve classic sandwiches and paninis with housemade spreads, toppings, and meats on our freshly baked breads. We also bake pizzas on our housemade crust. And of course we have plenty of sweets available every day.

Our bakery is carry-out only. We have a lot of great ways to get food to your home, whether it’s through local delivery or shipping.

In addition to everything being gluten-free, we plainly label everything with primary allergen markers (dairy, eggs, soy, nuts) and are happy to help identify a wide variety of other common allergens.

We also have vegan items, including breads, sandwiches, pizzas, and sweets. You can always give us a call at the bakery at 202-525-5204 with specific allergen questions or we can help you on site. We exist as a business to help make navigating food allergies easy and more delicious.

ADAMS MORGAN STAFF

Mike (Founder/Owner)

Mike (Founder/Owner)

Mike was diagnosed with Celiac Disease in high school and began baking gluten-free breads at home with his mom in 2004. He moved from Pennsylvania to DC in 2011. He found the options for fresh baked gluten-free items in the DC area lacking, which inspired him to open Rise Bakery in 2014. He is passionate about making gluten-free life in the DC area more delicious and accessible for the Celiac community. His favorite things about working in a bakery are chatting with regulars, meeting new customers and night baking. He spends his free time with his wife and son and their dog and cat. He is a mediocre athlete who finished in third place in the district finals in the 400 meter dash in 5th grade.

La’Prea

La’Prea (General Manager)

La’Prea was born and raised and in Maryland. She first learned to bake with her Grandma, and has been doing it ever since. In culinary school she was the type of student who trusted her instincts and wasn’t afraid to play around with the recipe. La’Prea thinks people should use logic rather than emotions more often. She brought these skills to Rise, beggining in the kitchen, and is currently the General Manager.

Veronica (Back of House)

Veronica (Back of House)

Veronica grew up in San Vincente, El Salvador, and has been working in food service for the last 16 years. Her answer to “What do you do for fun?” is “Work”. She has a daughter who is her favorite person in the world. At Rise she keeps the kitchen going, prepping food and baked goods, cleaning everything, and helping customers.

Octavia (Shift Manager)

Octavia (Assistant General Manager)

Baking has always been a passion of mine so naturally I fell into the world of pastries! I've been working in bakeries ever since I graduated culinary school in 2012. I am the assistant general manager at Rise Dc and I love working with the team here. Fun fact about me is that I love binge watching shows on netflix and I love shopping!

Diane (Front of House Cashier)

Diane is a data analyst by weekday, cashier by weekend, and 3D background artist by night. She loves baking and is a mom of eight gerbils and aunt to one dog and three cats.

Zoe (Front of House Cashier)

Zoe was diagnosed with Celiac disease in middle school, shortly after being diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. She's loved baking since she was little, and worked hard to continue that passion over the years (despite an admittedly rocky start)! Her favorite part of working at rise is meeting all the people who are just as happy as her to find a place where they can eat everything. In her free time, you can find her crocheting, watching movies, or petting every dog she passes on the street!

Emily (Front of House Cashier)

Emily works as a finance associate during the weekday. And when she is not working she is either traveling or hiking with her dog
